They Found Her Abandoned With Her Head Stuck In A Jar Then This Happened

From Fox5Vegas:

It took a Good Samaritan and volunteers with the SPCA of Livingston, and members of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office five days to find a dog who was in serious need of immediate help.

Maggie was first spotted Saturday on Hood Road in a rural area of Denham Springs. Her head was stuck in a heavy duty plastic mayonnaise jar. SPCA of Livingston was notified Monday, but were unable to find the dog after searching the area.

Officials with the Livingston SPCA say on Thursday, the Good Samaritan, Alicia Severio, spotted Maggie and called the SPCA. It took about four hours to rescue the dog. “She ran every time we tried to approach her,” said Terri Dunlap with the SPCA. “Alicia Severio is the real hero here – she stuck it out in that heat till she captured her,” said Dunlap.

Severio posted on Facebook, “[I] just wish I would have found her sooner.”

Severio says James Skaggs also helped her rescue Maggie.

“I’m glad we caught her when we did. For all who helped and continue to help, thanks from the bottom of my heart. Out in the heat, saving a life is an awesome feeling. I got a little banged up but it was worth it for sure. Glad that the pup is safe and sound. Again thanks to everyone,” said Skaggs on a Facebook post.

When Maggie was rescued, she was taken to Banfield Pet Hospital and they had the task of removing the ticks, fire ants and live maggots covering the dog.

“We had our vets on stand by and when she finally arrived, everyone was beyond shocked – they had seen maggots before on an animal but never on one that was ALIVE!”

The veterinarians had to use garden shears to cut the plastic jar off of Maggie.

Maggie was then taken to Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic in Baton Rouge and Dr. Tony came in after hours to help. The last update from SPCAOL says Maggie is stable and is resting.

Dunlap says they assume Maggie was dumped on Hood Road, and says she didn’t have much time left.

Maggie is a year and a half old and is a cattle dog mix and when she is healed and is spayed, she will be up for adoption.
