When a California mom, who wishes to remain anonymous, entered a Starbucks in the small city of Lancaster, she had no idea what she was about to step into.
The bathroom contained a hidden recording device — a camera wedged behind the sink.
Luckily, her 5-year-old son spotted it.
The woman spoke to KTLA 5 about the perverse discovery:
“I noticed he was staring at the sink a little bit perplexed. I asked him what was wrong and he said, ‘Mommy, why is there a phone under there?’”
She described just how disgusting it is to hide a camera inside of a public bathroom:
“It’s such a violation of privacy,” she said. “Not only of mine, but my son.”
Lt. Joseph Fender, with Lancaster police, noted that the camera was on and capturing video:
“The deputies discovered that the cellphone was running in a video-recording motion,” he said.
“They were able to get some type of surveillance video from the location, however I don’t know what the contents of the video are at this time.”
A spokesperson for Starbucks has indicated that the company will do everything in their power to catch the perpetrator:
“We are disturbed by this incident and take our obligation to provide a safe environment for our customers and partners (employees) very seriously.”
As of this writing, Lancaster police have announced no suspects.
Crazy to think how stopping to listen to child’s point of view can really change everything…
