It’s official… ISIS really is off the rails.
All across northern Iraq, ISIS continues to spread chaos and disorder. Even Islam’s holiest sites are not safe from these hard-line zealots. From the Mosque of the Prophet Jonah to the Mashad Yahya Abul Kassem shrine, the bombs just keep on coming. They even tried to destroy a 900 year old leaning Minaret (‘The Pisa of Mosul’) built by the predecessor of one of Islam’s greatest Kings, Saladin. That holy site was spared only because it was surrounded by more peaceful and reasonable locals who got there in time to stop them.
Few Christian churches or shrines in Mosul were spared.
They even defaced 5,000 year old ruins left by Mesopotamians who lived in the ancient city of Nineveh, located in the southern part of Mosul. Is this really what God intended when the Ten Commandments were given to Mankind? Does “You shall not make any graven image…” really mean “Destroy your cultural heritage”?
Is this even about religion anymore? Or is it more about showing strength and power over ancient peoples who can’t defend themselves and don’t care because they’re dead? Have none of these people been made aware of the wise, very ancient saying, “Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it”?
