Despite the fact that known terrorists have entered the US under the guise of being refugees, despite a new influx of 10,000 Syrians about to enter the country, and despite ISIS threats to exploit the refugee crisis to smuggle in extremist killers, the President has threatened to veto legislation that would mandate more extensive vetting of those coming in.
ABC News reports “Obama is vowing to veto a bill from House Republicans that would increase screening for Syrian and Iraqi refugees before they enter the United States.”
Obama is arguing that the legislation would create “unnecessary and impractical requirements” that could be detrimental to helping poor people fleeing extremism.
However, all the bill would do is to add a requirement for FBI background checks. It would not change or stop the current refugee program at all, it would merely provide some kind of vetting process, which is currently non-existant.
Intelligence heads and experts have continually stated that there is no vetting process in operation currently, and that there are “gaping holes” in US defenses.
It is also already known that radical Islamic terrorists have entered the US under the guise of the refugee program.
Indeed, a report released Wednesday by the House Homeland Security committee noted that two al Qaeda terrorists who have killed American soldiers in Iraq were able to enter the country as refugees.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if there were many more than that,” said Rep. Michael McCaul (R., Texas), the chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security. “And these are trained terrorists in the art of bombmaking that are inside the United States; and quite frankly, from a homeland security perspective, that really concerns me.”
Syrian immigrants already legally in the US have also warned that terrorists have “absolutely” sneaked into America by posing as refugees, and that they are joining up with homegrown sleeper cells waiting for the call to become active.
The FBI Director has warned that ISIS operatives are already in all 50 states in the US, calling it a “chaotic spider web” of extremism. Officials have warned that they do not have the resources to track radicalized Americans who are planning attacks.
“Those people exist in every state. I have homegrown violent extremist investigations in every single state. Until a few weeks ago there was 49 states. Alaska had none which I couldn’t quite figure out. But Alaska has now joined the group so we have investigations of people in various stages of radicalizing in all 50 states,” Director Comey said.
ISIS promised in February to take advantage of the refugee crisis to smuggle operatives into European countries and into the US to carry out attacks. The terror group also vowed to “Fill the streets of Paris with dead bodies” in July.
