The Hillview police said that they went to the house after responding to a call about a firearm. Merideth told the officers when they arrived that he had shot down the drone, and that it was in a field next to his home.
He has been charged with first degree criminal mischief and first degree wanton endangerment. He was booked and then released on Monday.
“Sunday afternoon, the kids – my girls – were out on the back deck, and the neighbors were out in their yard,” Merideth said. “And they come in and said, ‘Dad, there’s a drone out here, flying over everybody’s yard.'”
He waited for the drone to fly over his property before deciding to shoot it down. A person should be allowed their privacy when they are sitting in their backyard.
