Imagine if you will; you go out for a bit of afternoon shopping, you return to your car, put your bags in the boot, then get in, strap on your seat belt and begin driving home. On the way, you happen to notice something flapping around just a bit under your windshield wiper. You take a closer look, and alas, there is a crisp, new, $100 bill under your wiper blade! This was the case recently for Kyri Viehman of Fenton, Missouri after she’d gone shopping at a Michael’s craft store.
What did Mrs. Viehman do when she spotted the $100 bill? She pulled over to the side of the road and got out to pocket the cash, of course!
However, it was when she did this that she realized the note was fake. On it was written the message, “Ha! You thought this was real, didn’t you?”
Mrs. Viehman didn’t think much of this, viewing it as merely a sick joke, but later, from home, she did a bit of research online and found out that this could have led to a very messy situation had she noticed the fake money while still in the parking lot.
You see, this is a scam carjackers have been using for awhile. They’ll place the fake money under your windshield wiper blade so that you don’t notice it until once you’ve gotten in and started your car. Then, when you get out to get the “money” the thief steals your car. That’s why, if you ever see a $100 bill under your windshield wiper blade, do NOT get out to retrieve it!
