A deputy driving down Highway 101 near Newport, Oregon, in the dead of night, found something in the middle of the highway that will stop your heart. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said the incident was investigated and found to be an accident. No charges have been made and the county is only releasing the video as a sobering warning for “distracted” drivers (meaning get the f’ off your phone and drive).
Lincoln County Deputy Jeremy Gautney rescued a two year old child who was running down the middle of highway 101. His dash cam video shows the child appearing, barely visible, running right down the center line.
“Shortly after removing the child from the highway, Deputy Gautney was alerted to the child’s frantic parents who were searching for him,” said Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Curtis Landers. “The child was returned to them unharmed.” Landers said the family had been cleaning up after a nearby gathering when the child slipped out through an open door and ran straight to the highway.” “The following video is for educational purposes and not intended to ridicule or question those involved,” Landers said.
